How to join the Mont Saint-Michel ?
The site was subject to numerous modifications between 2009 and 2015, as part of the Mont-Saint-Michel maritime restoration project.
Commissioned in2009, the Couesnon dam gives Le Couesnon river enough strength to drive sediments offshore, far from the Mount. Hydraulic facilities have also been installed on both sides of the dam to speed up the process. If nothing had been undertaken, the Mont-Saint-Michel would have been surrounded by salt meadows by 2040.
The bay that surrounds the Mount has an extraordinary biodiversity. The salt meadows and mudflats that extend over more than 40,000 hectares are home to a large number of birds, as the avocet or Osprey. With the destruction of the old dike-road, at each tide, the landscape of the Bay is metamorphosed and nature regains its rights.

- You can now choose between the 3 pedestrian walkways specifically designed for pedestrians on the bridge deck from the vehicle parking lot. Allow about 50 minutes on foot. And its for free.
- On board of a motorized shuttle, the smuggler, in 12 minutes. From 7:30 a.m to midnight for free.
- On board the Maringote, a horse-drawn shuttle limited to 24 people, in 25min. Paying service.
