The Granville Carnival is the largest carnival in western France with some forty satirical floats, 3,000 carnivalers and up to 150,000 people eagerly awaiting this moment each year.
At a time when cod fishing was the main activity of the port, Carnival was the traditional last party on earth for the seamen who were preparing to depart for the Newfoundland Shoals of Canada.
Expected with a lot of impatience, the program of the 5 days of festivities is well charged: concerts and fanfares, parade and children bal, great illuminated cavalcade.
The Villa les Dunes will be closed on this period, but we recommend the Hotel des Bains in Saint-Jean-le-Thomas, which offers low budget rooms for 1, 2 or 3 people.
